Renovation of a hillside house with an ambitious renovation program to bring it up to energy efficiency standards (improving by 3 classes). The house is located in a protected area under the jurisdiction of the French National Heritage Architects, which led the client to use high-quality, bio-based materials.
The building had been extended over time using concrete blocks and was completely uninsulated.
Renovation Program:
- Exterior wall insulation of the upper floor using wood fiber insulation.
- Roof insulation under the rafters to maximize ceiling height using wood wool
- Installation of a mechanical ventilation system
- Partial replacement of windows and shutters with wooden frames
- Replacement of the gas heating system with an air-to-water heat pump for domestic hot water
In parallel, the work also included:
- Creating a master suite
- Opening up new views of the Cévennes mountains with the addition of new windows
- Reinforcing the house by repairing cracks
- Creating a new bathroom
- Rewiring the entire electrical system
(This work excludes the finishing touches, which the client decided to carry out themselves.)
